Food Glorious food. 2) My mates and I 3) Could you see my Amour?

Well sorry for the long delay, I just dont feel like it, i.e. to blog. Oh yes, last Nov 10 was my association school dinner, as usual it was held at a posh place, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and as expected the food was lousy, but who cares, I went there free as usual. Free food and good ambience and you cant get even better. It was a black tie dinner and some my friends would wear to the hilt. Not me I do not have any reservation but just to be me.

I am a person always againts protocol but this time I was at my worst. Usually I wear a batik but this time not. There was a rally going on in Kuala Lumpur which disrupt the traffic flow. A huge one in fact 50,000 turn up. It could have been more but the police manage to put a clamp on the rally, I believe 100.000 could have turn up. it was a show of force by the opposition after all election is just around the corner. It left a bitter pill to the Prime Minister and his Son in law whom only the day before, at the closing ceremony of their party and carried live on TV, challenge the organiser and they did take the challenge and came in full force. As for me I think their grouses were legitimate but the rally left a sour note. These people who took part in the rally were being use by persons who has no interest on them but their own selfish desire. Today for example another rally is taking place by the Indians asking for compensation for the British Government. It is ridiculous and petty and the promise that each Indian in Malaysia should receive USD I million as compensation is just ridiculous. I understand their grouses, indeed I have pointed in my writings that the Indian sadly is the only community of repute to loose out in the economic cake. Their portion of their economic pie in 1969 was 1.5% which sadly instead of increasing has decrease to 1% in 2003. Why? there are many reasons, it is not just they were discrimination, which I admit, but sadly, their leaders who lead them were a dissapointment.

Malaysia is the only country I know of institutionalised Communal Politics. It is different than blatant racism and more close to an apartheid of doing things. It divides her people into communities and the leaders of the communities are responsible for the well being of their communities. It is like the kangchu system which was introduce in Johore at the beginning of the 18th century by Temengong Ibrahim. It was also famous in other Malay states especially Selangor. The idea of kapitan or Chinese Warlords are part of the systems which has been proven effective in controlling the communities. So the Malaysian Political Scenario is of such nature.

The thing is when it comes to the Indians the leader has been there for 28 years and he is perhaps the longest serving leader of a political party in the world. UMNO tries to dislodge him but his hold on his party is unshakable. The Hindraf rally is perhaps due of their frustration and futile predicament stuck with a leader that they themselves are frustrated with. It is not the fault of unfairness but in all probability of the systems practice by the ruling party which is a coalition of all the community parties. Lesser leaders would have resign but he manage to strenghten more his power with the grudgingly asquesicene of UMNO. That is the dilemma but as I said someone is exploiting this grievances. The funny part about both rallies the 'bersih' and hindraf is the presence of the dubious character of the former Deputy Prime Minister who was sack for his alleged tryst with his driver and his abuse of power. He is said to be a homosexual and most damaging is he a spy to US? Is it true? Well, let's look at facts.

  1. After he was sack from the cabinet he cried that he was unceremoniously sack. He took to the street forgetting that the appointment of the Cabinet Members are on the discretion of the Prime Minister. Later he would be sack from the party but that is another issue.

  2. Al Gore at that time was the Vice President of the US, came to APEC held in Malaysia(Clinton excuses himself) and it was the first time anywhere where a host nation was insulted in full glare of live TV, by a visiting Nation. It was uncalled for, and whether or not you think the reform was right (it was being held all around Kuala Lumpur) diplomatic protocol and good sense and manners does not allow a host to be publicly humiliated. It was done during dinner given by the host country for visiting dignitaries.

  3. He went to jail release and went to work in the States, fine, suddenly we found him cited by the senate on the case of Wolfowitz and Shah Riza and the alleged abuse of power by the President of the World Bank. This website by the State Department spoke volume of the 'friendly' relationship of Anwar and the US, please visit the site. http://www.foundationforfuture.org/index.html
  4. Who is Anwar, then. is he a leader or the lackey of the US. When he was the Chairman of the foundation for the future, he receive USD56 million. This fund is to promote democracy ala US. Hmmm suddenly when he came back and when the election is just around the corner we have the Bersih rally and the Hindraf. Who organise these people? Organising all of these needs money. A lot of monies! Was he there, yes, you could see his picture on the tube. Bersih a rally of NGO suddenly when it comes to handling the Memo to the Agong, the name submitted for approval to the palace and the actual presenter of the Memo was two from DAP and PAS and walla Anwar Ibrahim. The NGO name submitted who are not align to any political organisation disappear. I wonder why?

Anwar Ibrahim, a person whom I remember in the 1990's disrupt an international close door meeting on East Timor,APCET II, in Kuala Lumpur is a chameleon without balls and morality. I can spew forth my dislike but to you readers feel free to go to http://tunkuaisha.blogspot.com/ and http://anwarisme.blogspot.com/ . Some of the article is in Malay but it worth while to understand my loath for him.

Below I am pasting two interviews of him please be free to analyse what he say. He, the darling of the US would not publicly denounce Islamic State in Malaysia. He is full of crap!

Perak Crest, The Dashing Sultan Abdullah the father to Raja Mansur, and Sultan Idris the old man with the hat who was the Sultan when Perak Anthem was first sung!

I AM WRONG!!!!!! Ok slightly wrong!!!! The whole part about the national anthem as far as I am concern is true but looking at the facts below I might have done some injustice to Wan Abu Bakar. The truth was Raja Mansur was never the aide the camp or a d kong as the malays says. He was the eldest son of Sultan Abdullah. In 1888 he did acompany Sultan Idris to England. He was not married then yet as far as I know. The reason the Sultan when to England in the year 1888 was to retrieve back the Royal Regalia of Perak which has been kept in England after the Larut War in the 1870's. The dispute on the Royal Regalia was the reason the Pangkor Treaty was sign in 1874, which resulted in the coming of the British to Perak. Sultan Idris would also visit England again in 1904 or 06, I am not very sure of the date but he did go again. Let's get the story straight because according to the myth perpuated about the aide de camp and the Sultan, which I regard it as a myth because it can't be verified, for the only person to be the aide the camp of the Sultan as far as I know, was Raja Mansur son, Raja Kamarulzaman, who later would become the Raja di hilir but he was born in the year 1892. If the Perak Anthem was first introduce in 1888 then he can't be the one neither can it be Raja Mansur who never did become the aide de camp,so the myth keep on perpuating. I suspect that the myth got to do to show that the eldest son of the true monarch,Sultan Abdullah, who was still living in exile in sychelles is trying to show that the present Sultan is an ursuper to the throne and therefore the son could tell the Sultan to stand up when he hear the song played and reminding him that the song which originates from seychelles comes from Sultan Abdullah. These wayang or shadow play is well known to the malays and to show how slight the Sultan was the son The Yang Mulia Raja Mansur is said to be an aide de camp. In old malays there was no aide de camp. There is a boy servant and making Raja Mansur a boy servant make him as insignificant as possible. I think the myths and the reasons are left to be known to those people who has perpuated this myth and historian would always deal with facts and not fiction. How the song was introduce I am not certain but the fact remains in the original sheet, you would see Raja Mansur name is written as the lyricist. You would also know in the records that he was at one time the Sultan's Secretary. And all this are recorded and be verified. Other than that what I told about Negaraku stand! It is a folk song thus the song belongs to the people and no one has a right over the song just like Rasa Sayang Eh! which has no composer too.

Sultan Abdullah was implicated in the murder of the British Resident J.W.W. Birch and was therefore deposed and exiled to the Syechelles in 30th.March, 1877. He was a gifted artist and composer, including what was to become the National Anthem (Negara Ku) in 1957. He was married to :

The 3 inportant Man in in charting the course of modern Malaya !) Tunku Abdul Rahman 2) Tun Razak 3) Tun Dr Ismail

I read in an article recently written by Fan Yew Teng a DAP politician whom have skewered the fact about the relationship Tunku has with Tun Razak. I am sad when history has been skewered to no end. Down below is an excerpt of the article as reported:

"After Merdeka in 1957, the public perception of the Tunku as prime minister and Abdul Razak as his deputy was that their relationship was one of great harmony. Some even characterised it has a father and son kind of relationship. But it was only valid for a while.
For none other than the Tunku himself had exploded the myth that his relationship with Razak was as harmonious as commonly believed. Writing in the 29 August 1983 issue of The Star (and later reproduced in his book Contemporary Issues in Malaysian Politics), the Tunku related a telling incident in this vein: “Once at the Residency, Khalid Awang Osman, the former High Commissioner to India, mentioned in front of Tun Razak that he (Razak) would have to wait for a long time before he could become the Prime Minister. I could see the shocked surprise on the face of Tun Razak. As it happened, after that day I noticed his attitude took a change.”
Well, well, from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. The myth of an almost perfect political and working relationship was, well, just a myth. In an article published in The Star on 20 February 1978, the Tunku said that Asiaweek’s M.G.G Pillai had alleged in the 17 February 1978 issue of that magazine that “many political figures still insist privately that the Tunku stepped down unwillingly in 1970 and that he was in fact pushed aside by Tun Abdul Razak.”
The Tunku commented: “As regards the late Tun Razak pushing me aside, he made no attempt openly to do so but it must be admitted that he felt a bit small to be my deputy for so long, and being an ambitious man, he would no doubt have liked to take over as prime minister. Only those around him wanted to take over dramatically and with a blare of trumpets.”
It may be true that Tun Razak made no attempt openly to push the Tunku aside. But did he make any attempt secretly to do so? And who were those around Razak?
Mahathir, Musa Hitam, Harun Idris, Syed Jaafar Albar? And some other Umno extremists or ultras?
It is interesting to note that the Tunku, in reference to what Khalid Awang Osman said, as mentioned earlier, had added: “I took the remarks as a joke, but soon after things began to happen.”
What things began to happen?
Well, in an interview with Asiaweek, published on 10 May 1985, exactly 16 years to the day after the fateful general elections on 1969, the Tunku actually blamed Tun Razak and other colleagues for his political downfall. In relating the charged atmosphere just before the 1969 general elections, the Tunku said: “It started when one of them (alleged communists) was killed near the airport, and they asked for a funeral procession to bury the dead. I would never have allowed that. But I was not there. I was away campaigning. But my colleagues, who were trying to make trouble for me, gave permission, and so when the communists carried the body, they stopped at every corner to harangue the people, to curse the government, to curse me…”
Responding to further questioning, the Tunku actually said that “My deputy allowed it”, meaning the procession.
To another question, the Tunku said: “I couldn’t have stayed on. To stay, you have to be sure of the loyalty of your friends and colleagues. I wasn’t sure. In fact I was very, ah, frustrated with the behaviour of some.”
The Tunku had often said that he wanted to be the “happiest prime minister in the world” - but how could he be happy when some of his friends and colleagues wanted to stage a coup against him?"
First and foremost how dare you to insuanate that what you did not know. Did Tunku fell that Tun has betray him, maybe? did he betray him, no, a big fat no! Fan Yew Teng tend to forget that Tunku has become irrelevent to the Malays. Many wanted him out, but it was difficult to do that. Malays have a tendency not to rebel, they epitomise the spirit of Tuah well and very few want to be Jebat! It was Tunku who has misread his welcome, his catnap and his indulgence to gamble and horsing around don't go to well with the malay masses. I remember in a TV programme in the late 70's 'Rancangan 30 Minit' Tunku who was invited to be the guest when he was ask about the Malay by the editors of the newspaper his awnser was vintage tunku. He replied without baiting an eyelid that the Malays need are basic, depa kalau dapat kenyang perut depa, cukup! otak tak kenyang takpa asal perut, orang orang Cina depa buat bierniaga jadi jangan peningkan orang Melayu yang susah nak peningkan otak baik depa belajak
pelan2!

That is Tunku, he is not wrong but he has I repeat become irrelevant. He refuse to change and he remind me of a father who are set in his ways! It is difficult for him to understand the needs of the Malays whom by the time because of him, has gone forward! Has gone to the Universities yet can't find a job. It is a fact even now the malays find hard to compete with the Chinese in the private sector. In Penang for example qualified penang malays cant find a job and had to migrate to Kuala Lumpur whereas Penang malays are the most cosmopolitan of all the malays in malaya. But it is a fact that since the Penang Government is chinese and the private sector are chinese control the environment is stiflling for the Malays to earn a descent living and the myth of meritocracy that the non malays espouched is totally false.

Was they disagreement between the top leaders, yes but not to the extent that Tun would oust Tunku. It is a known fact that Tunku favours Tun Dr Ismail as his deputy. He is flamboyant and a dresser compare to Tun who has doer face. But Tun Razak is worker, a brilliant technocrat and wise enough to understand the need of the nation as a whole, In fact he believe, like most like minded Malays of that time to a Bangsa Malaysia which one day would be a reality! How far UMNO has gone from that lofty ideas is perhaps blame on Tun Mahathir whom Tunku dislike but Tun Razak decided otherwise. It is also to note that Tun Dr Ismail also dislike Tun Mahathir and never regard him as a Malay but Tun decided to keep his enemies within after all, all of them basically love the Malay race!

If Tunku think he was betrayed it was justified but not by Tun. He wish Tun has fight for him, but deep down I think he has inform Tunku many times of the undercurrents that exist againts him but Tunku did not heed him. He was surrounded by lackeys and he trust them too much. People like Khir Johari, Senu etc paint a different picture to him and this was his weaknesses and when he fell after the 1969 racial war, the happiest Prime Minister is no more! in the Sun as reported the late Tan Sri Lee Siew Yee remembers Razak word when he helm MAGERAN the commitee that overseer the emergency after the racial clash "My Main Job is to make myself out of business- I am a dictator, I rule by decree. It is an unplesant business,it's best to get it quickly over and done with."

Why I think Tunku fear is unfounded is because before he was made Prime Minister, he learn about his leukemia. He was given not more than three years to live he survive more than 6 years. He went to see Tun Dr Ismail, Tunku's favourite whom by that time has retired to ask him to be his deputy and confided in him his sickness whom beside his doctors is the only one who knows this secret. He cried unambashedly when Tun Dr Ismail past away before him because whom can he turn to to make the dreams of the founding fathers a reality? Yes, people also point out to me that he could have ask Tunku to stay but the Malays could not have him, Tunku knows he has to go. Why he did not confided in Tunku because Tunku whose mind is still lock in a time past would made a mistake by choosing his lackey!

Tun as far as I know has always shown respect to Tunku and always use patek when spoken to him. Fan Yew Teng do not know history is very sad!! A former Member of Parliament and a SUARAM member should know better. When Tun Dr Ismail past away, Tun at that time was in Canada. He instructed Sardon then who was Minister of Works to buried him at the Heroes Mouseleum(the first one to be so). Sardon disobey Tun and decided to bury Tun Dr Ismail outside the Heroes Mouseleum. Luckilly as luck would have it Tun who has hurried back thanks to the Canadian Governement who has loan him a plane was stumped. Sardon who is noted not to be a liberal when ask why he disobey he told that the Mufti was againts muslim to be buried under a roof. Tunku was so so sad by this remark for it seems to say his forefathers who was the Sultans of Kedah were not muslims enough. Tun quickly ask the workers to break the marble floor of the mouseleum so that his friend and Tunku's could be buried and given a heroes burial. Does this not speak volume of the relationship of Tunku and Tun!!!!

Here is a song listen to it

I REFER to your report ("Rasa Sayang ours too... we have right to sing it" -- NST, Oct 3) where some Indonesian personalities claimed Rasa Sayang as their song.

Something similar happened in respect of Negaraku. Just after Merdeka, Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman visited Indonesia and President Sukarno tried to claim that our national anthem was based on the Indonesian song Terang Bulan. The truth is that Negaraku and Terang Bulan have a common origin, but each evolved independently of the other. The origin was a song from the Seychelles, probably Rosalie, which was composed by a Frenchman, Beranger, in the late 19th century. At that time, Seychelles and Singapore were popular ports of call. Sailors on ships plying this route picked up the tune in Seychelles and brought it to Singapore. In Singapore, it was picked up by an Indonesian opera and included in its performance as Stambul Satu. When the opera returned to Indonesia, it introduced the tune there where it became known as Terang Bulan. Meanwhile, the ex-Sultan Abdullah of Perak was living in exile in Seychelles for being implicated in the assassination of Resident Birch. His son, Raja Chulan, visited him, picked up the song and introduced it to his brother, Raja Mansur. In 1888, Raja Mansur accompanied the new Sultan Idris of Perak to Britain as his aide de camp.
When a British official asked Raja Mansur for the Perak anthem, Raja Mansur hummed the song from the Seychelles. It was taken down by the bandmaster and played at the welcoming ceremony. Henceforth, it became the Perak anthem. When Malaysia was to achieve independence in 1957, a competition was held for a national anthem. The selection committee was not satisfied, so Tunku Abdul Rahman proposed using the Perak anthem. So we should be proud that Negaraku had a dignified royal lineage, and is not based on an Indonesian popular song.

Dear Sir

I am quite astounded by the above article. I think I need to correct historical inaccuracies that has been written by your reader. First thing Terang Bulan was a folk songs whose author as Rasa Sayang eh is not known. Yes presumeably it did originate from sychelles and Rosalie was one of the architect that arrange the song on paper! He is the arranger not the Composer! Raja mansur was the elder son of Sultan Abdullah, Raja Sir Chulan was the second son. YM raja Mansur at that time was the secretary to the Sultan. Raja Sir Chulan was appointed the Raja di Hilir of Perak the third in line to the throne.

When the late Sultan visited London before the war suddenly the band ask him what is the song of Perak, not wanted to be embarass he turn to his aide the camp Yang Mulia Raja Kamarulzaman the son of YM Raja Mansur who would later become the Raja di Hilir.Being a musician inclined he remember the tune of Terang Bulan thus he instructed the band to play the song. The lyrics to the tune was written by YM Raja Mansur later at the behest of the Sultan as the secretary to him so YM Raja Mansur was just the lyricist and credit must be given to his son YM Raja Kamarulzaman.

YM Raja Kamarulzaman's daughter is Raja Toh Puan Zaitun the former first lady of Malacca who married Tun Abdul Aziz the Governor of Malacca. His Grandson sometimes wrote article in the star in the social column as Mansur Tun Abdul Aziz. Please check the facts and verify with these people if what I say is true or not.

Folk songs are folk songs to deny that the Perak anthem and the National Anthem is not base on Terang Bulan is blasphemous. If I am not mistaken Terang Bulan tune is still bane to be played here but then again the tune of the song has metamorphose into what it is today. That heritage should be acknowledge but that doesn't mean we lessen the dignity of our Negaraku.

For your information my Great Grandmother was one of the wives of YM Raja Mansur!

Hooray for you tube! Now i could paste the video here how wonderful! One of the greatest Malay hero and Malaysian Heroes to my eyes is Tun Abdul Razak. He is our second Prime Minister who died in office. As those who have followed my blog would have known Tun Razak was the surrogate son to my cousin's Grandfather but due to difference of political opinion they drifted apart. It has nothing to do with Tun Razak's character but more to do with Dr Ahmad stubbornness. He cannot accept Tun Razak idea's about Malaya and the need to open Malaya to other races. Dr Ahmad was oppose to the idea of English law and the white man's way of governing Malaya. Dr Ahmad was a proud man, he even insist to make some of his children to study in a Malay school to show the superiority of the Malay school which sadly in later years prove folly. Tun Razak try to make amends but to no avail. Tun Razak was a practical man.

He was born in 1922 although the son of a Malay Chief from Pahang he did not live in the lap of luxury. His father took in a second wife and he was send packing to stay with his grandparents, it was there he met Dr Ahmad who took him in and sometime would help him out with some pocket monies to go to school. It was said that he walk barefoot to school as was the norm in those days.

He excel in school so much so that when he reach 12 years old he earn a place to study in the Malay College partly due to the fact that he was the son of a Malay Chief. Malay College Kuala Kangsar was like Eton in England and hear he renew his relationship with Dr Ahmad, who has move back to his hometown. He use to pay a visit quite often. He earn a place to go to Raffles Institutiton and his contemporaries is Lee Kuan Yew. He earn a scholarship to study law in England and he went and there as I think as many student do embroil himself in the student union. It was there that he horned his principle and beliefs.

He became the Deputy Prime Minister for 13 years and never did he go against Tunku. He serve Tunku faithfully just like Hang Tuah who never betray the Sultan, he never betray Tunku! In 1969 after the racial riot he heads MAGERAN, the body that rule Malaysia because Emergency has just been announce.

In sept 1970 he assume the post of the Prime Minister by then he knew he was suffering from Leukemia. He sworn his doctors to secrecy and he went to see his old friend Tun Dr ismail who himself was plague with Heart disease and recurring cancer to ask him join back the cabinet as his deputy. He taught he would leave first but Tun Dr ismail who has taken an oath of secrecy too pass away in 1975. He cried his heart out , he was in despair for he saw no one who could suceed and perhaps understand the policy and ideas that he and the early cabinet members share about Malaysia. His vision on Malaysia has not been fulfilled and fully understood. Most people taught he was a Malay Chauvinist, nay, he loves the Malay yet he understood the rights of all Malaysian. He once said in a speech that one day the Malays need not have affirmative action anymore, once they can stand tall with others, the malay rights will simply disappear. He serve the nation well nobody knows he was suffering from leukemia not even his wife. He argued many times with his wife who sometimes wish to have things that a woman of that standing could have but could not. He abhor abuse of powe and when he died in all regards his family were poor.

I sometime think he could have leave and not assume the post of the Prime Minister after all he knows he was dying but he has too because they was no one Malay who was capable and accepted by the Malays who at the time was disappointed with Tunku and the Ultra Malays lead by Tun Dr Mahathir and Musa Hitam has somehow manage to influence them.

One of my favourite singer in the 70's has always been Gilbert O Sullivan I guess I am a sucker for good lyrics and good melodies. I love Claire and matriomony and not to forget Alone Again Naturally. I do not know what happen to him butI think he is now touring again and I wish him well.
